Travel Information to Kyoto

Kyoto can be accessed from two airports: KIX (Kansai Interenational Airport) and ITM (Osaka-Itami International Airport). You can arrive one of the two airports from abroad directly or through Tokyo Narita International Airport.

From KIX (Kansai Interenational Airport), one of the followings is recommended:
  • Kansai Airport Limited Express HARUKA, by Japan Railway (JR) (2,850 JPY for non-reservation seat)
  • Limousine Bus, by KATE (Kansai Airport Transportation Enterprise) (2,550 JPY):
    • This bus leaves every 30-40 minutes. Traveling time to JR Kyoto Station is about 85 minutes. The tickets can be purchased from vending machines located near the bus stops. For more information:http://www.kate.co.jp/pc/index_e.html.
From ITM (Osaka-Itami International Airport), the following is recommended:
  • Osaka Airport Limousine Bus by Osaka Airport Transport (1,310 JPY)

Traveling time to JR Kyoto Station is about 55 minutes. It is the easiest and recomended way, and the bus stop is closest to your luggage carousel in the arrival lounge. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket vending machines.

If you need VISA to enter Japan, please see here.

Hotel Accommodations:
We do not book accommodations for the participants, for there are many hotels in Kyoto. Please make a hotel reservation by yourself. We recommend you to stay near JR Kyoto station. For example, you can find many reasonable hotels via this link.

Gion Festival

Gion Festival is one of three major festivals in Japan, and held in July in Kyoto every year. Please see this link.
http://www.kyotoguide.com/ver2/thismonth/gionmatsuri12.html

As the link says, the main festival: Yoiyama is on 14th-16th, but you may see Hoko & Yama Trial Pulling on 12th-13th, and most Hoko and Yama are constructed by 10th, so we can see them in the evening of 11th after the conference. (Now, we are planing an organized walking tour and dinner in the evening of 11th after the conference. The dinner may be on your own.)

The festival is so big, and so it is difficult to find a hotel especially for the week-end.
** So, please book your hotel as soon as possible.
