Location

RC 2018 will be held in Leicester, United Kingdom and hosted by the University of Leicester. Located in the Midlands, Leicester is highly accessible from East Midlands Airport, Luton Airport, Birmingham Airport, Stansted Airport and other London airports (see below).

Leicester is notable for being the birthplace of legendary broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough, as well as his brother, the actor and filmmaker Lord Richard Attenborough. Leicester is also the home of the (hugely surprising) 2015/16 Premier League football champions, Leicester City FC.

Founded in 1921, the University of Leicester is world-renowned for both the discovery of DNA fingerprinting in the 1980s by Sir Alec Jeffreys, and more recently the discovery of the remains of King Richard III.

By Air

East Midlands Airport (EMA) The closest airport to Leicester, though is relatively small with flights to and from a select number of countries (mainly Europe). Bus and train links are available from the airport to Leicester City Centre. For example, a five minute shuttle to East Midlands Parkway from which a 20-30 minute train to Leicester can be caught.

Birmingham Airport (BHX) Around an hour away from Leicester, again with very good train and coach links to Leicester City Centre. For example, a 2 minute air-rail shuttle to Birmingham International, from which an approximately 1.5 hour train to Leicester can be caught.

London Luton (LTN) Around 1.5 hours away from Leicester by train (2 hours by coach).

London Stansted (STN) Around 2.5 hours away from Leicester by train (longer by coach).

Other airports in London include London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW)

By Train

Leicester train station is roughly a 15 minute walk from the campus of the University of Leicester. This train station is highly accessible from both London and Birmingham, making it ideal for airport transfers. See the location of this train station on the map below.

By Car

Leicester is well linked via the motorways M1, M69 and A6 between London and Birmingham.
